I absolutely love this little gadget! I had a couple of the regular sized GarlicZooms for a while now and loved their usefulness, so I decided to get the XL. I will never look back! Seriously, get the XL. The smaller ones can only handle a few cloves of garlic at a time and even then can have a little trouble starting off. I tried 4 cloves with the XL and it could’ve handled twice that easily. It chopped them up so fast with no problems.I know there’s a lot of “I can chop my own garlic” folks out there and that’s fine. I love garlic, but loathe chopping it. I hate the way you can’t get rid of the smell from your hands. So this little gadget works wonders!

This looks like a goofy throw-away kitchen gadget that ends up in the back of the drawer. IT IS NOT! I use this almost every day for mincing garlic and ginger. It works like a champ, with two caveats:1. Buy the large one. I replaced my original one after three years and couldn’t tell from the listing whether the one I had been using was the XLarge or the regular, so ordered the regular. It’s really too small for even 1 clove of garlic IMHO. The large one will accomodate two or three cloves of garlic- halved for even chopping- or an inch of peeled ginger quartered.2. The manufacturer used to include the little gizmo in the photo, which is perfectly sized to dig the minced whatever out of the chopper. The new on I just got did not include one. I’d say it is a must- super convenient. And one more thing- as other reviewers have said- rinse it out right after use. A good stream of water is all it takes. Otherwise, the garlic will harden into the stuff they use on space shuttle nose cones.

Love! Love! Love the GarlicZoom! Mincing garlic has never been easy or fun. It makes mince work out of garlic, onion, chilies and herbs. I’m not sure what i love most about this little gadget. Not smelling stinky garlic fingers all night? No burning fingers or eyes from chopping a super hot chile? Or mincing fresh herbs in a blink of an eye. Anything i can throw in the GarlicZoom I zoom. It’s fun! I have a problem wrist from an injury & an arm and hand that suffers from nerve damage. I can still manage to zoom this. When people ask if the can help in the kitchen this is the chore that i give them and everyone loves it. They think it’s the neatest little thing. I purchased the larger of the two and while its perfect for its intended purpose, garlic, i wish that i had a larger version for onions, chiles, and herbs when more than just a tiny amount is needed. This is excellent for mincing fresh or dried herbs very finely, like you would buy at the market. Just make sure your fresh herbs are bone dry before using and pack them in as tight as you can. I have other larger choppers, but this little guy does a great job in keeping things uniform unlike most choppers, plus none of the rest can come close to the fine mince of this. With practice you can vary from a fine mince to a small dice. Did i mention how nice it is not to have burning or smelly garlic fingers? Short on space? You won’t be sorry to give up room for a little guy. I’d definitely recommend.FYI: The knife is still king for overall convenience PROVIDED that your knife skills are up to par. This little zoom zoom is more fun than a knife and is great for people with dexterity problems or with just so-so knife skills. If you have some skills then you probably will be disappointed. For those complaining about waste.. I’ve found no more waste than using a standard garlic press, which I can no longer use (medical issues). Hope this helps avoid disappointment.

Okay, I know by now we’ve all seen Alton Brown’s complaints about “unitaskers” and, if you’re like me, you’ve probably tried a dozen different products that all swear to make your garlic loving lives easier. The difference here is that this one actually works! And well! I have Rheumatoid Arthritis so I can’t chop garlic cloves anymore but the pre minced kind just doesn’t have the same flavor. I buy the already peeled garlic (A step you can skip if you’re able to peel garlic) throw a few in whole and just roll it around my counter. It’s big enough that it’s easy to hold and can chop more than enough garlic for a 6quart pot of spaghetti! It takes a bit to get started but just keep going back and forth as it stops rolling and it’ll be perfectly minced in a minute or so! MUCH faster than doing it by hand if you’re anything less than an experienced prep chef.I was really concerned that getting the garlic out and then cleaning it would be a huge hassle but it’s very easy! You can’t tell by the pictures but it has little pieces of plastic that go between the blades on the bottom to keep the garlic from just spinning around. These are your friend when it comes to getting the garlic back out, too. What I do is I turn it upside down and switch between tapping it on my counter and spinning the wheels a few times. Then I open the lid over my pan or bowl and get a butter knife to scrape the last out. Most of it will fall out as soon as you open the small lid. You’ll never get all of it out but very little is left behind this way. Then I rinse it under the tap until the rest comes out to clean it and let it dry on my counter. It has both a small lid for getting the garlic out and a big one for removing the blades but I haven’t seen a need to completely disassemble it for cleaning yet. I have done both and seen no difference in how clean it gets. Just rinsing through the small lid and letting it air dry has done the job.I’ve been using it for a few months now and it hasn’t gotten any duller or developed any rust spots. The only thing I’d like to see changed about it is that I wish the blades were more fixed in position because they sometimes have a problem where they’ll only go so far in one direction but spin freely in the other. I can only guess but I’m thinking that the blades are hitting the pieces of plastic on the bottom. However, this really doesn’t change how well the product works overall; it’s just a tad annoying.

Great product but the one I received is the small size not the large. I’ve order two in the last two weeks hoping amazon fixed the issue. The photo is the packaged small against my large one (hinge broke after a year..time for new one)
