The Caribbean region, known for its vibrant culture and stunning landscapes, is now making waves in the world of innovation and technology. In recent years, Caribbean countries have come together to foster collaboration and drive sustainable development through innovative projects and initiatives.
ONE Caribbean: A Collaborative Approach for Sustainable Development
One notable initiative is  ONE Caribbean, introduced by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in 2024. This strategic framework aims to address critical shared challenges in the region, such as climate adaptation, citizen security, private sector development, and food security. By leveraging relationships with governments, regional stakeholders, and the private sector, ONE Caribbean supports projects with high regional impact.
Regional Science and Innovation Agenda
In April 2024, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) held a conference in Bogotá, where delegates from 22 countries agreed on a regional cooperation agenda for science, technology, and innovation (STI). This agenda focuses on productivity, innovation, and export diversification, aiming to create new sectors and boost economic growth.
Supporting Science and Innovation
Despite challenges such as political crises and governance issues, international institutions continue to support science and innovation in the region. By linking STI with development, these institutions aim to improve living standards and promote sustainable growth.
The Future of Caribbean Innovation
The collaboration among Caribbean countries and international partners is paving the way for a brighter future. With initiatives like ONE Caribbean and the regional STI agenda, the region is poised to become a hub of innovation and progress.
